Restaurant Review: The River Garden Terrace

After the farmers market at Lourensford Estate in Somerset West, a friend, her future DIL and I went for lunch. We chose the eatery on the estate as this was the easiest to get to. There is a wooden deck with tables, which leads into a small dining area which in turn leads to the delicatessen.  The outdoor setting is not super comfortable – but pleasant enough if there is no wind and the sun is shining. The view however is spectacular.

Service is not fast so do not go there if you want a quick meal. They stop serving breakfast at 11am and if you are there for breakfast you may not linger into lunch if there are bookings.

The decor is plain and simple and there are no frills – the menu is presented on a clipboard!

The prices are not in line with the simplicity of the setting – starters begin at R38 and the main courses start at R58. A plain cup of coffee costs R12 – and I would rather go to SWITCH on the estate for a free cuppa than pay for the same coffee at the deli.  2 starters and 2 drinks cost R119.

I had a cauliflower soup with truffle oil and a cheese scone – very delicious and a good light lunch.
