Recipe For Ginger Smoothie Packed Full Of Flavour

Did you know that ginger is part of the same family as galangal, turmeric and cardamom? I love using fresh ginger in my smoothies and find it goes so well with carrot. I keep fresh root ginger in my freezer to use as needed throughout the year. My ginger smoothie was made one very hot afternoon after a serious gym session.

Head straight on to the recipe for Ginger Smoothie ♥

We have about 100 days of water left in our dams. This really low amount can be affected quite rapidly. Either by fires of which we’ve had quite a lot. Or rainfall, of which we’ve had not nearly enough. Our drought is a result of very little snowfall over the past two winters. And has been made worse by people not adhering to water restrictions. We can only water with watering cans and we cannot water if it has rained in the past 48 hours. Cars cannot be washed, and mine is looking like a dust heap. I am doing everything I can to save water. There is a bucket in our shower to catch the excess fall off. And we have reduced the water pressure in the shower to use less. It is amazing how much water collects in just 5 minutes. This is then used to wash the floors.

Each time a tap is run for hot water the cold water is collected in a jug and then used to water my herbs. I have a plastic bowl in our second sink for rinsing dishes and to catch water run off when washing hands. That water gets used to top off the pool. In my extreme methods to save water I am not using my juicer. It has 5 parts that need washing after each use and the easiest way to clean it is to run a rinse cycle in my dishwasher. The dishwasher uses a total of 9.5l per cycle so it would use quite a lot less for rinsing. But as we do not have a grey water system in place this is a waste. So I bought the carrot juice and used my blender. That has only one part that gets washed by hand.

  2. Boy do I know the feeling associated with not having enough water, not actually something I thought I would ever have to consider.
Ginger is a go to in a lot of my cooking and always in my smoothies, totally makes it feel like its a bazillion times healthier huh?

    1. We are no longer getting free water to try and get people to use less. We are using as little as possible so I’m praying for snow.

  7. This sounds delicious! I love ginger. But jeez, that’s a serious drought! I live in southern California and supposedly we just recently overcame our years’-long drought. I hope you guys get some snow and get out of yours too!

  10. this looks very green! but i can’t stomach only green smoothies, and the sweetness from the apple, carrot and honey sound like a nice mix with the rest of the veggies and ginger (: hoping you guys get a bit more water soon! i live in california, and we’ve had a drought for a couple of years; there was so much rain here that we’re finally creeping out. it’s weird (but good!) to see green hills instead of the dried brown ones i usually drive by.
