In My Kitchen February 2014

Once again I am joining Celia from Fig Jam And Lime Cordial my sharing with you what is in my kitchen. Yuppiechef have a fantastic advert and I decided to do a riff on it when I ordered my Christmas gift from the dogs to me! I do this every year so that I get a little something I want. This year I decided to get myself a pair of herb scissors. These come with a warning that they may not be sold to anyone under the age of 18! Thankfully I am old enough (just) and I now have a pair of these 5 blade scissors to use when I cut up my herbs. They work really well, but you need a brush to clean in between the blades.

I also have a very special monkey peaking out of my shelves, called Mash. Mash the Monkey is hand knitted by Xhosa ladies in an income generating project in Imizamo Yethu township in Cape Town. If you want to make a difference in someone’s life, please buy a Mash for your own kitchen, or as a gift. To find out more head on over here.

Willow Creek have launched a new range of olive oils, and they sent me the Persian lime one to try. I absolutely love the deep lime flavour and I have used it to dip bread into, as well as to make a special recipe.

  1. Tandy, your herb scissors are a terrific tool! (Much more efficient than the ‘single snip’ method.) That lime infused olive oil also sounds wonderful, but little Mash stole the show (or post, as it were) with the worthy cause. Your philanthropic heart is showing. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  3. Your dogs have very good penmanship! I’ve seen those herb scissors a few times now, perhaps I should buy some? I’ll need a toothbrush to clean them… Thanks for the tour Tandy.

  7. Tandy, I love Mash! And the herb scissors are great – I’ve never figured out why they need five blades though? Lovely lime oil, and your bread is looking magnificent as always! 🙂 xx

    1. Mash is quite the inspiration. I think the 5 blades are to make chopping the herbs easier. Bread making slowly starting again 🙂

  9. Lime flavored olive oil sounds like the perfect accompaniment for Lavender and Lime’s Kitchen. Yum! I really need to get more infused oils or start making my own, how delicious would this be in a salad dressing or a dip for bread!
