Seafood At Chelsea, Somerset West South Africa

Seafood At Chelsea
Seafood at Chelsea

The night before Dave and I went overseas, we met friends for dinner. As we did not want to travel too far from home, I chose Seafood at Chelsea. Situated in Somerset West, this is certainly worth the drive. When Dave made the booking they did not let us know that they were not licensed. This was not an issue, but something to keep in mind if you want to drink alcohol with your meal. They do not charge corkage which is a plus factor in my mind.

Our Starters At Seafood At Chelsea

Go for the food

We had really good service from Terence to start. But, at the end, when we wanted to pay, the service was a little bit slow. This was the same with regard to the food coming out of the kitchen. However, the food is freshly prepared, and they were full with a few large tables. This did not deter from the evening at all as we were chatting away. There were so many starters I could have eaten, but in the end I chose to have saganaki (R50). The calamari was super succulent and the soft feta oozed out. Eric and Bev also had this to start, and Dave had the mussels in a creamy garlic sauce (R49)

Our Mains At Seafood At Chelsea

Our main meal, and dessert

Dave and Bev chose the seared salmon (R168) for their main course. They were asked how they wanted it done. This personal preference worked well for them as Dave likes his rare and Bev prefers hers medium rare. Both commented on how perfect the fish was. I went for the prawns (12 medium R112) and Terence suggested I upsize. It was totally worth it! We had a choice of sides and Eric chose rice, Dave had chips, Bev had stir fried vegetables and I had a Greek salad. Eric had a seafood platter (R148) and he could specify how he wanted everything prepared. It looked so good that Dave and I went back to have the platter for two (R290). Terence also convinced us to try the Mozart cake. We had that to share and it did not spend long on the plate

Going back

As I said, Dave and I went back so that we could enjoy a seafood platter. They were not fully booked and the service, both from our waiter and the kitchen was supurb. We had the tempura prawns (R48) to start and these could have done with a bit more seasoning which we let the chef know. She came to speak to us after our main course. The mussels on the platter were a little bit of a let down, being cold and oversauced. It would have been nice to have some variety in the platter. That being said, the yellow tail was delicious and the portion generous. We had a vanilla caramel cake to share for dessert.

  1. This sounds like a good place to go, Tandy. I love prawns. We are going to Pronto in the Colony Centre in Craighall for prawns this weekend.

  2. We often had the experience that service slows down when it comes to paying the bill which is funny. The seafood sounds great!

  4. I so enjoyed the sea food during my past travels to South Africa. So, your post brought back those memories of dining on super fresh seafood, while looking out over the water.
