Chocolate Marmalade Marble Cake

This recipe for the Chocolate Marmalade Marble Cake has been adapted from 80 recipes for your bread maker. Who knew you could bake a cake in a bread maker?

I have wanted to make a marble cake for quite some time now, but every time I bake my usual cake I forget to leave out the cocoa and then I don’t feel like making a second lot of batter. Pure laziness on my behalf I know! Marble cakes look so pretty and I can remember baking them as a child and being amazed at how they always came out with the marble effect. I have seen various methods of making sure your cake looks good but when I read this recipe in my 80 recipes for your bread maker book I was impressed with the ease of getting the marble effect. I was not going to use my bread maker to bake this in as my terrine needs some loving attention as it has not been used nearly enough! I will definitely bake this again using my usual cake batter recipe to see if it comes out as nicely.

Chocolate Marmalade Marble Cake

  • Preheat the oven to 180° Celsius
  • Prepare a rectangular baking tin
  • Melt the chocolate over a double boiler
  • Cream the butter and the fructose
  • Add the marmalade and mix in
  • Add the eggs one at a time mixing in each one completely before adding the next one
  • Add the baking powder
  • Add the flour a tablespoon at a time
  • Mix until the batter is smooth
  • Pour the batter into the baking tin
  • Pour in the melted chocolate and run the spatula through the batter to mix the chocolate through the mix
  • Bake for 30 minutes and allow to cool before removing from the tin

  • Paired with the chocolate semi-freddo and fruit this dessert makes quite a statement. I would never thought to add marmelade to the cake, but it sounds really delicious!

  • I remember making marble cakes with my mom! They were always fascinating to me as well! She would always watch over me so I would not get carried away with the swirling for if I did it would become too mixed. A light cutting around with a cake spatula was all that was needed. I think you've put the bug in me to back one soon!!
