Glenlyn Hotel

Dave and I stayed across the road from The Glenlyn Hotel last year when we were in London. As we liked the area, and the look of the hotel, we decided to book here for this visit. The hotel and apartments are located within large Victorian terraced houses and are linked by several staircases. The website describes the bedrooms as having their own distinctive décor giving a homely and cosy feeling. And they are not wrong using the word cosy as our room was too small to keep the suitcase in it.

Our room

With a standard double bed, small closet, desk and coffee table, there was not much space. Dave had a bedside table and there were wall mounted reading lights above each side of the bed which was very comfortable. The room was perfectly adequate for our stay as we were literally only sleeping, changing and showering there. And as we had our car with us, we could leave the suitcase in the boot. The only thing I missed was a mirror in the bedroom so that I could do my makeup while Dave was in the bathroom.

Our Room And The View

The bathroom

There was a noticeable lack of towel hooks in our bathroom. I left our wet towels to dry draped over the bathroom and cupboard doors. When our room was cleaned for the day, they were placed onto the towel rail. As it was not heated, they were slightly damp when we got back that afternoon. On the plus side we were provided with Mason & Miller amenities that were topped up each day. The bathroom is in need of a revamp in my opinion. The shower curtain gets in the way, and the hot water is temperamental. But this aside, it was a good size bathroom for a few nights away.

Dining Area

Breakfast

On our first morning I was going out for breakfast so Dave and I went down to the dining area for something hot to drink and small to eat. There is coffee and tea in the room, but a second cup never goes remiss. Dave had coffee and as I was not feeling well I had herbal tea. I had some fruit and Dave had pastries and then he took me to the Oak Caffe. On the Sunday I was still not feeling 100% so I did not indulge in the full breakfast. Once again I had tea and started off with fresh fruit. There is a full English breakfast on offer which is kept warm. I waited for freshly scrambled eggs to be brought out before I indulged. The Continental breakfast choices are also good and Dave sampled most of what was on offer.
