Gorgeous By Graham Beck, Steenberg Cape Town

Dave and I were invited to the opening of Gorgeous situated on the Steenberg Estate but sadly due to previous commitments we could not go. We were heading overseas on the same night, and so I was more than happy when the invitation was extended for us to visit upon our return home. We chose a Saturday afternoon to head over the mountain to sample the canapés and the bubblies. Garth Almazan is a talented chef, and spent some time explaining the menu to us. On offer are two flights of bubbly tastings, the Vintage and the Non Vintage, or you can order by the glass or by the bottle. For those of you who would like to go for the experience, but you don’t enjoy bubblies, there is a limited wine list available. Jenna works behind the beautiful marble bar and she will explain all the bubbly choices available with enthusiasm and confidence.

Graham Beck make by far one of the best ever sparkling wines I have drunk in the form of their Brut Zero. This Méthode Cap Classique (the South African term for champagne) can be drunk on any occasion. As I have already enjoyed a bottle or two of this MCC I chose to have the Brut Rosé Vintage as my first tasting glass and the Brut Rosé Non Vintage as my second. Both were fantastic, but I much preferred the NV! The current menu has 5 canapés on offer, and Dave chose 4 and I had all 5 as I wanted to sample the dessert option. The canapés range from R18 to R30 and the platter of 4 costs R95 and the platter of 5 R110. If you do not want canapés you can also choose a cheese platter for R55 which will be adequate for 2 people.

The menu changes due to seasonal availability which is perfect for regulars as you will get to try new and exciting taste sensations on each visit. I would recommend Gorgeous for before dinner drinks, lazy afternoons, after work relaxation or after a show to wind down.

Disclosure: Dave and I were invited guests and the cost of our visit was covered. I was not asked to write a blog post in exchange for my invitation. This post is in line with my blogging policy.
