Dave and I spent a weekend in London for a special family occasion. My friend Talya’s son was having his Bar Mitzvah. Usually if we are in London we stay with them, but as her mom and brother had also come over, this was not possible. Dave and I wanted a place that offered breakfast and was close to all the places we needed to be. Heatherbank Guesthouse met all of our requirements. Situated in Finchley, North London, the guest house comprises of 3 Edwardian Houses.
From the camera at the front door, the lady handling the reception could see how much luggage we had. She decided we would not want to walk up three flights of stairs and moved us to room number 1. This was right at the entrance so a bit noisy when people were coming in after a night out. And being an old house, we could hear when the person above us started moving around. That said, it was relatively quiet and comfortable. The towels were changed when the room was made up, and the complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits were also topped up. The shower was in need of some TLC with the indicator for hot working opposite to where it was.
Breakfast and more
For some reason I didn’t capture the buffet on camera. It offered up fresh juice, a choice of cold breakfast items, toast and jams. A hot breakfast was cooked to order and both mornings I chose a poached egg with bacon, mushrooms and sausage. Upon our arrival I had asked if there was a scale we could use as I was sure our suitcases were over the limit. A luggage scale was provided to us the first morning of our stay. Heatherbank Guesthouse is within walking distance of the main road if you are catching a bus, and a 5 minute walk to the closest underground station. Dave used the underground to get into London, about a 25 minute ride. We were able to park our car on site which was another deciding factor when we chose where to stay.
The wi-fi was excellent which made checking emails and catching up on work very easy. There was a seating area in our room which was perfect for working, or just reading a book. The room had a TV with a great selection of channels, including sport and news.
