January 2021 Showcasing In My Kitchen

January 2021 sped by at a rapid rate of knots. My parents left on the 1st to head back home. This gave Dave and I the weekend alone before going back to work. We decided to have breakfast out at The Hickory Shack and despite the fact I ordered the smallest meal, I got a plateful of food. Work was busier than I expected which is a huge blessing. South Africa is back in Level 3 lockdown which means we cannot buy alcohol. We have run out of Port which is my own fault as I knew we were down to our last bottle. But we have lots of other liqueurs to drink in the meantime.

What was cooking in January 2021

I have been on a sourdough cookie mission and this month I made red velvet choc chip cookies and fig and orange cookies. Also on the sourdough front were bagels, bialys and hot dog rolls.

For baking there was a butterscotch sauce to drench my gluten free blueberry bundt cake.

Savoury wise I made a roast tomato soup and pindjur. This amazing relish is a regular feature in my kitchen. Cheesy brioche rolls were made for brunches and lunches several times.

One new thing for January 2021

I have always wanted a honey pot and decided that now was the time to get one. I chose the Le Creuset one in flame which matches my stove top kettle. They sit side by side on my kitchen counter. The silicone dipper is not as good as my metal one so I am using that instead.

This is my February submission to the #IMK series, hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.
