King Georges Guesthouse
Last month I booked 7 rooms at King Georges Guesthouse. We were going away for racing and needed to accommodate two teams. I prefer that we all stay together so a guest house large enough is key. Another important factor is parking as we have race cars on trailers. This is my second visit to the guest house and both times we have slept in The Studio. Dave and I arrived earlier than planned and called the land line to gain access. We were warmly greeted by Jesse and I took the keys for the other guests joining us later that day. I grabbed a spare towel from the one room and Dave and I went to enjoy a cup of coffee in our room.
I had taken the extra towel as I like to use two. However, the towels are changed every day and on the Friday they only replaced two of the towels. It was only on the Sunday morning when we were packing that I realized there was a bath robe in the cupboard. Personally I can see no reason for clean towels every day and mentioned this to Ivan. Like us, the Eastern Cape is in a drought situation and with only 3 months of water in their dams more care needs to be taken.
Dave and I like this room as the bed is comfortable, the lighting is more than adequate and the bathroom is huge. There is a large shower, complete with shower gel, shampoo and soap, as well as a bath. Had the water situation not been dire I would have had a long hot bath on arrival. There is complimentary tea and coffee and a bottle of water is put out every day.
Breakfast and more
The guest house is actually two houses, on one property, and each house has its own pool, lounge and kitchen area. Dani made us feel more than welcome when we gathered for drinks before going out for dinner. We were given glasses, ice and a bowl for our snacks. We made use of the lounge area all three nights we were there. Breakfast is served in Newlands and starts off with fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurt. Hot breakfast is made to order – your choice of eggs accompanied by bacon, sausage, mushrooms and tomato. There is plenty of bread laid out for toasting as well as a selection of jams, marmalade and cheese. I was pleased to see sugar-free options which Eric said were very good.
