Malva Pudding Challenge

Malva Pudding Challenge

The malva pudding challenge starts today and ends at midnight on the 4th of July 2010. Post your recipe / photo / story on your blog and leave a note here for me to say you have completed the challenge. A round up of all participants will be posted on Monday the 5th of July. This challenge has been inspired by my friend Linden. Do not limit yourself to the traditional recipe. You can be creative but be sure that the end result tastes the same. I will be making my own version using fructose.

Malva pudding is a dessert unique to the Western Cape where I live. It is a traditional South African dish that I hope you will try out.

Malva pudding is a sweet pudding of South African origin. It contains apricot jam and has a spongy caramelised texture. A cream sauce is always poured over it while it is hot, and it is usually served warm with custard and/or ice-cream. Many South African restaurants offer it. The pudding is thought to originally be of Dutch then Cape Dutch origin synonymous with the Cape.

Don’t forget, the bake a savoury tart challenge ends at midnight on Sunday – please let me know if you have posted anything.

  1. I’m not mad about puddings at all, prefer to do cheese & biscuits. But I do like malva occasionally, and I have to do a bit of entertaining for the Kleine Zalze competition soon, so this challenge will be put to good use.

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
