Cacio E Pepe
My impressions:

I know that this will be a recipe book I turn to time and time again. The layout is fantastic and the photographs are brilliant. I like that Gordon gives a kit list that is essential in his opinion. There are 12 items he feels will help with getting delicious food onto the table. He also offers a list of pantry items that will be shortcuts to flavour. I can see myself doing a lot of shopping in Europe for the ones we don’t get here.

What I made:

I started by making the cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) pasta. This was so delicious that Dave and I have adapted the concept numerous times since then. I even used this recipe as a base to offer a suggestion to a friend. She had some truffles she wanted to use in a pasta dish and she said the meal was fantastic. I have made the warm aubergine, tomato and burrata salad twice. Once because I had lovely aubergines that needed using up and I wanted to try something different. And the second time because my photographs did not come out perfectly.

  1. My daughters gave me a G.R. Quick and easy book years ago. It may or may not be the same one, but I rarely refer to it. I have nothing against quick meals at all, but since retiring, weekdays and weekends are the same to us. It was certainly a different story before, especially with two children. But like I said, there’s nothing wrong with a meal that only takes a few minutes, and Gordon is the man!
