Pomegranate And Gingerade

My first thought was to make a ginger infused limeade, but limes are so expensive here. So I went with my new favourite juice and made a pomegranate and gingerade. This is a refreshing summer drink which can be used as a mixer for gin for something different.

The other day when I was driving home from gym I saw an elderly gentleman get out of his car. It was obvious he had run out of petrol. And his wife looked none to pleased about this. The closest garage was 1.2km away and his walk would have been downhill to get there and taken him about 15 minutes. Even though I never pick up hitchhikers I stopped to give him a lift. I needed petrol as well, and even if I didn’t, he looked like the ride would be most welcome. He was so grateful when he got into the car. He told me the petrol gauge in his car must be faulty. And he confirmed my suspicion that his wife was not happy about being left on the side of the road. He told me they had been at the hospital and had to go back.

On the Sunday his brother had been admitted as he was not feeling well. They had been there that day (a Monday) to visit with him and just after they left he died. He had a massive stroke and now they had to return to identify the body. I left him to get petrol with the words that it was better to not have to watch his brother suffer. Hopefully he took some comfort in my words as waiting for someone to die is awful. I wish I could have offered more than just words though. Maybe a cold drink such as my pomegranate gingerade would have been alright? He was done getting a container of petrol before my car had been attended to. I can only hope someone gave him a lift back up the hill, and that his wife was pleased to see him.
