September 2021 Showcasing In My Kitchen

September 2021 was not a great month for me! I was in a small accident which meant a lot of paperwork and time spent out of the office. And then my laptop was stolen in a break in at work. This resulted in a lot of time spent out of the office and and even more paperwork. I managed to get my old laptop working but I had no time for blogging. I finally sat down yesterday to write this post, ignoring the piles of paperwork waiting for my attention. Luckily for me I had blog posts written up for the next three weeks. And hopefully by the time we leave for overseas, the rest of the month will be handled.

Baking in September 2021

It felt like pastry month in my kitchen as I made a plum crostata with an amazing pastry, as well as a basic shortcrust pastry. I created a delicious pomegranate frangipane and baked a honey chocolate cake. And to make for an easy dessert I made banana waffles topped with Greek yoghurt, honey and berries.

On the savoury side

I finally mastered the technique and made chicken rice paper rolls. And I tested a recipe for mini frittatas which are great for lunch boxes. My goats milk ricotta was used in a beetroot tart but I want to make more and have it on a bagel with some honey.

Sous Vide

We all know about getting the perfect cuisson by using the sous vide for meat. But did you know you can make desserts in your sous vide. This month I made pots de crème as well as limoncello.

One New Thing In My Kitchen

When I was in Johannesburg I went to the Gourmet Grocer with my parents. I saw this rose harissa and decided to spoil myself as it was quite pricey. My dad gifted me the bottle and I adapted an Ottolenghi recipe and made some baby marrows with a small amount. It is quite fiery as well as floral from the addition of rose petals. The slightly fruity undertone is interesting and I will be using more of it when we get back from our travels.

Rose Harissa

This is my October submission to the #IMK series, hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.
