June 2018 was a great winter month. We had much needed rain and the dam levels are slowly rising. We are no where near close to saying the drought is over. But the wet weather has been a blessing. Dave and I did not go away racing, but we did go away for a night with Bonnievale Wines. I shall share more about that in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here is what was new in my kitchen.
June 2018 #FOMO Box
I opened the box and snapped the photos straight away as I wanted to use the pasta sauce. It was perfect for the oxtail I was making that night. I have opened the salt and topped up my salt pig, and the mustard is on the table and has been opened. Dave has tucked into the fudge and finished the biltong and I have put the coffee away for guests to enjoy. The knives will be gifted so all in all, a good box this month.
Shiraz SA Awards
Last month I attended the Shiraz SA Awards and was sent home with my choice of red wine. I chose this wine from La Vierge as Dave has not been to the estate. The winery is on my list of places to visit. I went years ago to buy a special bottle of wine for a friend.
Dave and I were lucky enough to do the end process of MCC making at Weltevrede Wine Estate. It involved taking the crown cap off the bottle and then placing the cork in by hand. The hardest part of the process for me is waiting a month before we can enjoy our bubbly.
James invited Dave and I to join him, his wife and his parents-in-law for Fathers’ Day brunch. We went to a local farm store that has a restaurant attached where we all had excellent meals. While we were there I bought some cider, and these mushrooms. I strayed away from making an exotic mushroom pasta and instead gently pan fried them in coconut oil.
I was getting slightly frustrated at not having the carcass done in this area of my scullery. The idea is to have drawers with all my baking equipment in them. Dave finally got the drawers done and now all we need to do is measure the top. I also want a drawer in drawer system installed but that will have to wait. The space on top is perfect for my breadbin, bread maker and juicer.
I am sharing this post with Sherry and all the other #IMK bloggers. Pop on over to see what else has been showcased this month.
