Strained Yoghurt With Blueberries

I am so enjoying the thick texture of strained yoghurt. I was buying it nearly every day but decided to spend less on ordinary thick yoghurt and make my own. This way I can play around with flavours and additions that are all sugar free.

Many airlines offer great deals on destinations beyond their hubs. So for example, it is cheaper to fly with Air France to Rome than to Paris. But, don’t think you can book this flight and then ditch the Paris / Rome leg. If you try and save money this way you will be in for a surprise. The airline will not allow you forward travel if you miss one of the legs. On our recent trip to France we were scheduled to fly direct from Cape Town to Paris. But, our flight was cancelled due to technical issues. We were rescheduled on a flight via Johannesburg. The flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg was on an airline that was not my first choice. When I went to check in on the Air France website I could not check in for the domestic leg.

I then went onto the domestic airlines website and checked in using the booking code provided to me by Air France. I could only check in for the domestic leg which had a few repercussions. It meant checking our luggage through to Johannesburg and collecting it. Then taking our luggage to the Air France check in, and getting our boarding passes about 90 minutes before our flight was departing. For some reason Fly Safair changed our booking code, which meant that on Air France’s side we were a no show for our first flight. This meant we could not continue with our flights! It took an hour of working on the system to get us onto the flight, and ensure there would be no issues with the rest of our planned trips. It is a lesson to ensure that all your flights are with partner airlines.

Strained Yoghurt With Blueberries

This is so easy to do, and the result is an extremely thick yoghurt

  • 480 g thick plain yoghurt


  • Position a sieve over a bowl, and line with muslin cloth
  • Pour the yoghurt into the sieve and place into the fridge
  • Leave for 3 hours to strain and then put the yoghurt into sterilized glass jars *


* I added blueberries to the bottom of the jars for flavour. You can use fruit, honey or even granola to add texture.
