Target Acquired, Don Bently | A Tom Clancy Novel

Target Acquired opening line:  “Why are we here again?” Master Sergeant Cary Marks said, shifting his weight for what seemed like the hundredth time.

Target Acquired

My blurb:

Jack Ryan Jr is about to find himself in the worst situation possible. A simple job of overwatch for a CIA meet in Israel turns into his worst nightmare. And the worst nightmare for the President of the United States, his father. Only if luck is on his side will he survive. And he will have to keep his wits about him if that luck is to arrive.

Target Acquired
Jack Ryan Jr is on a simple job. An all-expenses paid trip to Israel in exchange for a of couple hours easy work, reporting back to an old friend at the CIA. What could be easier?
Jack is here merely as an observer, but as he settles into his work in the market, he sees the glint of a knife, and throws himself in front of a woman and her young son under attack.
Cover blown, he finds himself the target of trained killers. Alone and outgunned, Jack will have to use all his skills to protect the life of the child.
My verdict:

I cannot help but think back to a blog post Mae wrote about characters not ageing along with the books. The Hunt For Red October was written in 1984. Here we are introduced to Jack Ryan, the man who becomes President in the 1994 novel, Debt Of Honor. He has not aged 27 years and neither has his son, who is now becoming the central character in the Tom Clancy novels. This book, like the others, was a great read and recommended, whether or not you have been following since the beginning.

  1. I really enjoyed the early Jack Ryan novels, written by Tom Clancy. I have trouble wanting to read a Jack Ryan novel not written by Mr. Clancy…

  2. Tom Clancy is one I have only read a few novels but I like the sound of this one. I wish I had combined my food blog with the book reviews like you have, I like the format.

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
