The People VS. Alex Cross, James Patterson

The People VS. Alex Cross opening line: A hot summer’s eve.

The People VS. Alex Cross
My blurb:

Alex Cross has been suspended. He is standing trial for murder and even though his boss doesn’t think he is guilty, there is a protocol to follow. Alex cannot abide to be idle so he starts up his psychology practice again. He ends up being involved in a case where All Blonde Girls Must Die is the theme of a killer. He doesn’t realize just how entwined he has become in the case until it is nearly too late. Having to face the reality that he might be trigger happy, does his future hold something new?

The People VS. Alex Cross

The charges: explosive Alex Cross has never been on the wrong side of the law – until now. Charged with gunning down followers of his nemesis Gary Soneji in cold blood, Cross is being turned into the poster child for trigger-happy cops who think they’re above the law. Cross knows it was self-defence. But will a jury see it that way? The evidence: shocking As Cross fights for his freedom, his former partner John Sampson brings him a gruesome video tied to the mysterious disappearances of several young girls. Despite his suspension from the department, Cross can’t say no to Sampson. The illicit investigation leads them to the darkest corners of the Internet, where murder is just another form of entertainment. The People vs. Alex Cross: the trial of the century As the prosecution presents its case, and the nation watches, even those closest to Cross begin to doubt his innocence. If he can’t convince his own family, how can he hope to persuade a jury? Although he has everything on the line, Cross will do whatever it takes to stop a dangerous criminal… even if he can’t save himself.

My verdict:

I have not read every Alex Cross book so the appearance of his father in this one was quite a surprise. It is my first ever audio novel and I found the sound effects interesting. Obviously one cannot ‘hear’ those when reading. However, I do however ‘hear’ the voices of the people in the books. Having André Blink using his own tones for the people I ‘know’ was a bit weird. I managed to listen to this novel a CD at a time while training at gym. I am not sure I will try another audio book, but I will most definitely recommend you get hold of this latest Alex Cross novel.

  • I am also finding audio books an interesting experiment, Tandy. Some of the readers and sound effects are great and some of them are horrible. One reader was so awful [it was for Anne of Green Gables of all books], I had to buy another version.

    • That is such a waste of money IMO. PS, I am bringing this to JNB with me for you if you would like it :)

  • I have never tried an audio book. I've been tempted but I like the way my imagination works when I read so it could be a distraction from that.
