The Tavern is situated in the beautiful old harbour of Gordons Bay. This informal dining establishment offers the perfect venue to watch the sunset, catch up on the sport in the pub, or enjoy a long relaxing meal. The pub is separate from the dining areas and has a large screen television for optimal viewing. The smoking section is alongside the open kitchen and the non smoking area has a view of the yacht basin. There are two outside areas – downstairs with not much of a view and upstairs with a great view – and its own pub area. I can highly recommend you go there for good food, but do not expect the best service!
JULY 2011
Dave and I popped in for a quick supper – we shared this 1kg mussel pot which is enough of a meal for the two of us! If you look below, you will see this is not the first time we have enjoyed this for supper.
APRIL 2011
This is the place we go to when we want a quick meal, without leaving Gordons Bay. This evening the service was good but it was a little bit loud. We had the mussel main course to share as a starter and I had a full chicken as my main course, which was a bit too chilly hot for me. Dave had the calamari which he said was bland.
DECEMBER 2010
The wine list is small but well priced but given the heat of the evening we decided to stick to beers. For me, a good beer list includes Peroni and I was not disappointed.
The menu is extremely comprehensive and offers everything from bar snacks to seafood platters. You can choose from 11 starters, 4 side dishes and 11 salads. We chose a Tavern Variety Basket (R55) to nibble on while catching up with friends.
The main courses range in price from R38 to R570 as well as SQ items so it should suit any pocket. Sauces, butters and toppings are extra and range from R7 to R25. You can also ‘top up’ your meal with a side order of prawns or calamari. Dave and Estelle chose the yellowtail (R79), Hennie chose the butterfish espetada (R75) and I chose the calamari steak (R69). Unfortunately my calamari was slightly underdone and by the time it came back to the table, my side salad was warm.
There dessert menu does not grab my attention as there is no crème brûlée on it but the 6 desserts on offer are adequate and well priced from R23 – R29. None of us chose to have desserts after our really good and generous portioned meals.
OCTOBER 2010
Dave and I went for supper and shared a 1kg pot of mussels. Needless to say, we could not fit another morsel of food in after what was going to be a shared starter!

Sounds like a great place to enjoy a meal and so reasonably priced too.

it is really cheap!
Those Tavern-type places are great for a casual meetup and drinks, I think it’s important not to expect great cuisine though. What a good venue they have, superb view.
there food far surpasses most pubs which is great – it is the service that is a bit lacking 🙂
