Vanishing Games opening line: A few hours before dawn on the morning of his last job, Sabo Park got down on his belly next to the rifle on the bow of his fishing boat, eased forward into a comfortable shooting position and flipped open the lens cap on his night-vision scope.
My blurb:
Sabo Park discovers something more than he had bargained for and his crime results in Angela calling for help from someone she has not been in contact with for 6 years. Six years previously, a heist gone wrong resulted in Angela abandoning Jack. Now she has sent him a message asking for help. And because she was Jack’s mentor he does not think twice about travelling halfway across the world to risk his life to save hers.
Vanishing Games
I work alone. I may be the best thief in the world but no one will ever know a single thing about me. Well, almost no one. A lifetime ago I had a mentor, Angela. She taught me how to be a criminal, how to run a heist. And now, six years after she vanished and left me high and dry on a job in Kuala Lumpur, she’s sent me an SOS. Or at least I think it’s her. If it is, then I’ve got to go. I owe her that much. So soon I’ll be on a plane to Macau, either to see a friend or walk into a trap. Or both. But that’s the way I like it. Sometimes the only thing that makes me happy is risking my life. Time to go.
My verdict:
This book is well written with the criminal underworld of Macau clearly explained. The pace is fast and full of action and interesting tit bits of knowledge shared along the way. You won’t want to put it down and I reckon Roger Hobbs is an author worth keeping a look out for.
Publishing information:
Disclosure: I was sent the book to review by Penguin Random House South Africa. I was not required to write a positive review. This post is in line with my blogging policy.
