Zucchini Restaurant, Wilderness

Situated in Timberlake Village, Zucchini Restaurant offers meals that are hearty in a simply designed restaurant with quirky touches. The bar stools are saddles and the children often ride them with glee. The central focus is a large fireplace and we sit next to it as our ‘regular table’. My mother-in-law eats here often and the staff know her order by heart, down to how she takes her coffee at the end of the meal. We visit Marguerite about 4 times a year and this is the one place we most frequent if we take her out for lunch.

On our first visit we had the ostrich livers (R59) to start which were tasty and have a completely different texture to chicken livers. I’m not sure if this is due to the way they were prepared or the actual livers themselves. Dave and I both had burgers (R89) as mains and the portion was generous and the burgers excellent. For our second visit the three of us shared a salmon carpaccio (R69) which was very good. This is the second time we’ve ordered ‘raw’ trout for Marguerite to try and she really enjoyed it. The first time was when she came to visit us in Gordons Bay and we took her out to a local seafood restaurant where I ordered sushi. Dave had The Route pasta (R62) and he said that the pasta was too thick but the sauce was good. I had the ravioli (R76) and the pasta was far too thick, the filling non existent and the sauce nothing too special. I won’t try the pasta again.

Marguerite has the same meal each time she eats there, which is specially done for her. She has the frikadelletjies (R85) which come with a generous portion of mashed potatoes. We ended the meal with espressos for Dave and I, and an Americano for Marguerite. The bill total including gratuity was R434.00. The service is excellent and they treat Marguerite like gold.

  1. Wow so many incredibly interesting flavors! I’ve never had chicken livers or ostrich livers… so I’m sure I wouldn’t know the difference 😉 But it sounds just great!

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
