How to Dress for Travel Days Without Sacrificing Comfort or Style
Travel often requires adaptations in what we wear. You might find that what works perfectly for your day-to-day life isn’t at all suitable for long hours on a plane or hanging around airport terminals. However, just because you’re on the go, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style or suffer discomfort. With clever outfit planning, you can still look chic and feel cozy on your way to your next adventure. Here’s how to dress for travel days, blending practicality with style.
Choosing the Right Upper Wear
To remain warm and cozy on a chilly flight or in a drafty train, get a cute hoodie. Hoodies are incredibly versatile in both style and comfort. You can find a hoodie to suit pretty much any sartorial taste, and their layerable nature makes them an excellent option for moving between airports, planes, stations, and streets. Swap the hoodie for a trendy denim or leather jacket when the weather is warmer.
Selecting Comfortable Lower Wear
When it comes to dressing your lower body, think roomy and flexible. Tight jeans or stiff fabrics might get uncomfortable during long stretches of sitting or standing, as well as being bulkier to cram into your suitcase. Opt for stretchy leggings or joggers; they offer the comfort of pajamas while appearing more put-together. For a dressier option, try wide-legged pants or jumpsuits.
Pick Shoes That Are Trip-Friendly
Shoes are probably the most critical part of your travel outfit equation. The key is finding a balance between style and comfort. For hassle-free security checks, avoid footwear with lots of straps, snaps, or laces – even though some airports are relaxing their rules about shoes in security, you will still need to remove your shoes to get onto many international flights. Think slip-on sneakers or loafers. They are easy to remove and put back on, offer great support, and can be both trendy and classic. Sandals, ballet flats, and low-heeled boots are also good choices, depending on the weather and your destination.
Accessorize Wisely
Accessories can elevate any outfit, even travel outfits. A stylish leather backpack or a chic crossbody bag always looks sophisticated and keeps your hands free. Jewelry should be minimal and easy to handle. In addition to being a fashion statement, scarves serve dual purposes: they can keep you warm on a cold flight and double up as a makeshift pillow or blanket. Similarly, a wide-brimmed hat can be functional, shielding your eyes from the sun, while adding an air of mystique to your look.
Balance is Key
Savvy dressing for travel days is all about finding harmony between style and comfort. Choose fabrics that feel good against your skin, and remember that layering is your friend. A good rule of thumb is to stick to neutrals as they are easy to mix and match. But don’t forget to throw in a pop of color or a unique accessory to showcase your personal style. After all, you’re not just journeying from one place to the next, you’re also making a style statement!
Some good tips there Tandy. Planning an OS trip next year.
When will you be going, and where?
I definitely struggle finding middle ground here. Either I’m dressed business casual, or in a grubby sweatshirt and pajama pants. It’s a skill I have yet to master!
The pyjama pants outfit is my go to comfort clothes 🙂
