Confessions of the Dead opening lines: Analysis Note: My name is xxxxxx assistant director and special agent in charge with xxxxxx of xxxxxxxx.
My blurb:
Deputy Matt Maro is where he is every Sunday morning. He is having breakfast at The Stairway Diner on Main Street. His girlfriend works there, and like in most small towns, everyone knows everyone. So when a strange girl arrives, and no-one knows who she is, people assume she is just a visitor passing through. But her arrival brings with her some very strange occurances, including a murder of crows dive bombing the diner. This starts a chain reaction of events that Matt has to figure out, and quickly, before everyone dies, again!
Confessions of the Dead
The dead tell no tales . . .Hollows Bend is a picture-perfect New England town. The crime rate – zero – is a point of pride for Sheriff Ellie Pritchett. The day the stranger shows up is when the trouble starts. The sheriff and her deputy investigate the mysterious teenage girl. None of the locals can place her. She can’t – or won’t – answer any questions. She won’t even tell them her name. While the girl is in protective custody, the officers are called to multiple crime scenes leading them closer and closer to a lake outside of town that doesn’t appear on any map . . .
My verdict:
If you had given me this book without the jacket, I would have sworn it was written by Stephen King. I used to be a huge fan of his books, and read many of them in my twenties. Despite loving his work then, I veered away from his writing for a reason I cannot remember. This book was really well written and if you are a fan of Stephen King, or the co-author, J.D. Barker, then pick this up from your local bookstore. This thriller kept me in suspense right to the end.
About the Author:
James Patterson is one of the best-known and biggest-selling writers of all time. His books have sold in excess of 300 million copies worldwide and he has been the most borrowed author in UK libraries for the past nine years in a row.
He is the author of some of the most popular series of the past two decades – the Alex Cross, Women’s Murder Club, Detective Michael Bennett and Private novels – and he has written many other number one bestsellers including romance novels and stand-alone thrillers.

One of my favourites as well!
How interesting Tandy. I wouldn’t have thought to compare James Patterson with Stephen King. I haven’t read either for many years, however I might read this one. Good review, thanks.
Hope you enjoy this book Pauline 🙂
Hi Tandy, your reference to Stephen King does make this book intriguing to me.
I thought it might!
