Dutchies, Hermanus

Situated with a view of Grotto Beach is the very unassuming looking Dutchies. This is a lunch stop I can highly recommend with good, friendly service and great food.

Dutchies

Lunch in the rain

On a cold and wet winter’s day, Kim and I went for lunch at Dutchies. This had been recommended to us as a perfect spot for lunch I am sure if it was summer they would have been packed. But despite the weather, the majority of tables were taken. Guests included people from Britain, Italy, Australia and South Africans. The fact that the locals eat there is a sign  of a great place in my opinion. We chose to sit in the covered outside area. This meant we were out of the hustle and bustle of the main eatery. And had a stunning view of the rain on the water. There are heaters in this area, and lap blankets for those of you who feel the cold.

Bitterballen

Service and more

To start we shared a platter of 6 bitterballen (R60). These were really good, served with a strong mustard. The waiter brought us separate portions which was a nice touch. We both had the broccoli and cauliflower soup (R55). I had mine served as is, with the blue cheese. And Kim had hers served without the addition of the blue cheese. In  my opinion, the soup could have been warmer, especially as it was a cold day. But this did not detract from the meal at all. The owner came to speak to us, and the management checked up often. The total bill, excluding gratuity came to R185.00
