Eruption opening line: Rachel Sherrill, thirty years old in a few days, master’s degree from Stanford in conservation biology, rising star in her world, still thought of herself as the smartest kid in the class.
My blurb:
Hawai’i is basically one big volcano. And even though some are inactive, some like to vent a lot of the time. So when one threatens to erupt and destroy part of the Island, something has to be done. But, the biggest danger does not lie with what is under the earth, but rather what is hidden underground. And that could kill far more people than the mere eruption of one volcano.
Eruption
A once-in-a-century volcanic eruption is about to destroy the Big Island of Hawaii. But a decades-old military secret could turn the volcano into something even more terrifying…Now it’s up to a handful of brave individuals to save the island – and the entire world.
My verdict:
Like most people, I have a weird fascination with volcanoes. The Eyjafjallajökull volcano explosion in 2010 nearly disrupted our trip to Italy. And we have spent an entire week watching Stromboli from a distance. It is continuously active and lights up the night sky. We have been on Sicily when Etna has shown her might and that is spectacular. So, I really thought I would enjoy this book. Drafted by Michael Crichton and completed by James Patterson, I had high expectations. But the technical bits were really just too much to make for easy reading. And far too many people died in my opinion! I know that sounds weird, but I just thought many of the deaths could have been prevented in real life, so why make them happen in a novel.

HI Tandy, I am also interested in volcanoes, but this book doesn’t sound great.
Dave started it yesterday so I am waiting to hear what he thinks of it 🙂
