Located in the heart of Somerset West, is Henri’s Restaurant. This heritage home has been converted into a casual dining experience with a few separate dining rooms.
Henri’s Restaurant
It has been years since we last went to Henri’s for a variety of reasons. But, being under new ownership for quite some time, we decided now was a good time to try again. Our first visit was in May, and we went back in August. Both visits had highs and lows, but for the most part, our experiences were good.
Our Meal
The first time we went there, I chose to have the prawns served with avocado to start. Being a special, I don’t know what we were charged, but it was enjoyable enough that Eric ordered it both visits. Five well cooked prawns were served on a quarter of an avocado that was thinly sliced. Dave had the mussels puttanesca (R125), and Bev had the soup of the day (R98). She enjoyed it so much that the next time we went, we both had that. There were two choices, potato and leek which Bev had, and curried mussel soup which was my choice. The soup hit the mark being a cold August evening. For my first main course I had the bouillabaisse (R170). Even though it was tasty, it was not hot. When Dave had this on our second visit, it came out of the kitchen steaming. Clearly, not getting hot food was only about me, as it happened the second time as well. That visit I had the braised rabbit pappardelle (R175), and it was good, but not great.
Service and more
Dave and I had a bottle of Guardian Peak Merlot (R210) to go with our meals, and on both occasions we did not have dessert. The portions are large enough to leave you feeling full. However, on our second visit the kitchen was a bit slow in getting our main course to the table. Service was above average but not excellent. This would not stop us from going back, as overall, we had enjoyable evenings. Feel free to bring your own wine (corkage is waived on the first bottle for tables of eight people or less). Bookings are essential. Contact them on +27 21 852 6442.

I expect that we will have a very quiet night at home, drinking prosecco and eating prawns. We are creatures of habit, and this is what we usually do. I wish you all an amazing end to 2024. May 2025 treat you with kindness.
And I will probably fast asleep tho’ wish my genie could fly me over to join you in both the prawns and the bubbles and lots of ‘happy talk’. . . have a peaceful and contented evening with an upcoming year when far more matters go right than wrong . . . health and happiness from this summer to the next . . . 🙂 !!!
and good health to you this year xxx
happy new year Tandy! Hubby and I will just be chilling at home like normal 🙂 Best wishes for 2025.

Interesting menu but I do not like cold food.
