In many parts of the world, the 1st of May 2018 was a public holiday. In South Africa we had the day off work, and I found it quite strange. Usually we are overseas this time of the year. And, it was a Tuesday. Having a day off in the middle of the week upsets the balance somewhat. Wednesday felt like Monday, and Friday could not come soon enough.
Spread Knives
I like to have everything matching when I set a table for guests. For Christmas there were 8 of us and so I bought these spread knives at a local homeware store. They were not expensive and have great messages written on them.
FOMO Box May 2018
This month’s box looked like a Mother’s Day box. Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the second Sunday in May here. I am going to gift the tea mug to a friend who drinks loose tea as I already have one. The tea itself I have kept and used. The tea bags tear quite easily so I have to remember to be careful when loosening the tag. Dave and I tucked into the ginger biscuits. In fact, I ate so many that I decided not to have anything sweet for 5 nights. Quite a challenge for me. The crown jewels were delicious even though I don’t normally eat sesame seeds. I am going to try and make these. The berry & buchu ice tea was also very good.
Ice Scoop
One of the prerequisites when we bought our fridge / freezer was that it had a lot of freezer space. I did not want an ice maker as they take up far too much real estate in a freezer. We have 3 built in ice trays with a container underneath for the ice. For years I have used my hands to scoop out ice when needed. I was looking for place mats at a local home store when I found this ice scoop. Pity it is winter as I really have to find an excuse to use it.
Mixing Bowls
I went shopping looking for some ceramic mixing bowls. Le Creuset no longer do them so I went to another store to look for some. They didn’t have either, but they had these. I am sure they will be the perfect size for Dave’s needs. He makes omelettes or scrambled eggs over the weekends for breakfast. They were really well priced so I bought two.
Tongs
And while I was looking for mixing bowls I saw these tongs. I need another set as the pin on my old ones has broken. While I wait for Dave to fix them these cheap ones should do the trick.
I am sharing this post with Sherry and all the other #IMK bloggers. Pop on over to see what else has been showcased this month.

I love your spread knives, Tandy <3
Thank you Jane 🙂
Your spreaders are wonderful! Such an amusing idea, to put those “sayings” on the blades. Our ice maker came with a scoop like that, and I do indeed find it useful (though I do sometimes just reach in for 1 or 2 cubes). I hope you get lots of great new things in June!

Thanks for the visit Mae 🙂
What sort of tongs will you get? I just have OXO ones which look like the ones in your pic but I didn’t know you could get fancy ones!
There are ones that stand on the counter. And others with different grips. These are not quite strong enough so will probably splash out for more expensive ones.
Those spreaders are adorable and I love the message on them!
They were perfect for Christmas 🙂
hi tandy
thanks for joining us with an IMK post. Just fyi – i’m having problems with the new GDPR so not everything is showing as it should on my blog. but it will!:) once blogger fixes it up. love your cute paté knives I think your tongs are like a pair i have – they catch my skin every time i use them so you have to be careful… cheers sherry
These ones don’t catch, but they are not very strong 🙂
You have some great kitchen equipment. When I read your posts I realise I am quite archaic with some of my kitchen needs.
I am a bit obsessed with collecting new kitchen kit 🙂
I’d love those bowls to make scrambled eggs in! We make 12-14 eggs a day for my family, the baby alone eats 2 believe it or not (with cheese and buttered toast.) Wish I could buy them here!
That is a lot of eggs! I love scrambled eggs with cheese – so perfect 🙂
I love your new mixing bowls. How funny to have a day off on a Tuesday – in Australia (when I lived there) we would have ANZAC day and Australia Day wherever they fell in the week, and it was always strange. In the UK public holidays are always on a Monday and we don’t have the 1st May!
I think the UK bank holidays make more sense. Thanks for the visit Kari 🙂
I love LOVE those butter knives. How clever!
Thank you for the visit Debra 🙂
