The Grumpy Mole
With 5 different venues to choose from, Dave and I met Bev and Pete at The Grumpy Mole in Oxted. This cosy pub offered the perfect place for a late lunch. It has a traditional old feel to it, with lots of different sections. Dave and Pete met in high school and this was the first time the three of them were getting together since 1987!
Lunch
The menu is varied, offering up freshly cooked meals supplied by local vendors. The focus is on seasonal and regional ingredients which really resonates with me. Everything on the menu sounded great so making up my mind what to eat was not easy. I settled for the “Grumpy Mole’ pie of the day (£15.95) which might not have been the best choice.
However, my crème brûlée (£6.95) more than made up for that. We enjoyed wine and beer with our meals and had a really good catch up. The total bill for 4 main courses, 2 desserts, drinks, coffee and gratuity came to £101.00
Service and more
Being tucked away from view of the pub we did not get the most attentive service. However, the staff were friendly which made up for us having to get up to order drinks. The Grumpy Mole offers up quick lunches at the bar, more formal meals in the dining rooms as well as afternoon tea. If the weather permits it would be perfect to sit outside. Booking is advised so contact them on +44 1883 722 207

Whereas dining out is not a possibility right now, please consider these small town pubs when you are allowed to go out again.
What was inside the pie Tandy? 🙂
I can’t remember, but it was meat.
So nice to remember happier times!

I am trying to stay positive.
That does look like a fantastic crème brulée
It was!
I do love English pubs, Tandy. I have no idea where Oxted is and will have to look it up.
I also love English pubs.
Sounds like a fun place. Creme brulee is my husband’s favorite (he would have ordered the meat pie as well)
It is my go to dessert 🙂
