The Lovat
Everything about The Lovat spells luxury. When Dave and I arrived in Loch Ness we drove straight into the parking lot of The Lovat. We walked into an amazing reception and sat down and a beautiful wooden desk to check in. We had not made a booking and chose to spend the night in a garden suite, rather than in the hotel itself. The first thing we did was move the car around to the guest parking. We got the suitcases into the room and then went to the hotel lounge for a complimentary cup of coffee.
Room 35
Everything you could possibly need can be found in the room, from a laundry bag to decent towels and bathrobes. Our room includes a hair dryer, umbrella as well as complimentary water, tea cakes, tea and coffee. The tea and coffee will be topped up at request and fresh milk will be provided as needed. Some rooms also receive fresh fruit but we were not one of them. This might have to do with the fact that we did not pre-book. The room is beautifully appointed and the bed is extremely comfortable, albeit very high off the ground. We have a proper heating system in the room which is very easy to adjust. The hot water comes through in the shower straight away and the bathroom amenities are of a superb quality.
The Brasserie
As we sat down for dinner at The Brasserie Dave realized he had left his glasses in the room. The waitress immediately brought over a basket full of reading glasses so Dave could have his pick. Complimentary bread was brought to the table while we make our choices for dinner. We were asked if we had any food allergies before our order was taken. I chose standard menu items for my meal. Smoked salmon with a potato and horseradish salad to start and beer glazed Highland ox cheek served with roast carrots for my main course. Dave chose items from the specials menu. He had mussels to start and lamb for his main course. The wine and alcohol list is very impressive and the staff are properly dressed, polite and professional. Dave chose a tot of the Balbour and I went with An Cnoc 12-year-old.
Breakfast
I loved the care and attention paid to the produce at The Lovat. We are presented with an amazing choice of pastries, cereals, cold meats and condiments. The buffet includes lovely cheeses, fresh fruit and a selection of juices. Once again we decide to indulge in a full Scottish breakfast. The menu lists the origin of all of the items offered. We have a choice of a huge selection of teas as well as coffee and hot chocolate. They can also prepare breakfasts for people on dairy free, gluten free, wheat free and low fat diets.
Loch Ness
As the hotel is close to the Caledonian Canal we took a walk to watch the locks in operation. There is plenty to see and do in the area but as it was raining we did not spend too much time exploring. We did however sit down for a drink at The Lock Inn.
Good to know
I would suggest you book in advance as there are discounts available Coffee and tea is available throughout the day and the lounge is the perfect place to relax after dinner. The staff are available 24 hours to assist with anything you might need. Check out is at 11am and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. They are serious about reducing their environmental footprint which is amazing. Contact them on +44 1456 459 250.

What a beautiful hotel. We stopped at Loch Ness, but didn’t stay nearby. The geography of Scotland really took me by surprise. I knew it would be beautiful, but the extremes were incredible. We’ll probably not get back there, because many more countries are on our list, but my memories are strong.
The extremes in Scotland are really something to behold 🙂
Always wanted to visit Loch Ness – another beautiful place to stay, room no 35 looks particularly nice and what an amazing dinner! Have a lovely Easter weekend, Tandy ♡
Thank you Miriam, and you too!
I think this is the nicest place you’ve shown us on your blog Tandy, definitely my first choice of where I’d like to go someday!
I could have easily stayed there a few more nights.
Looks pretty hard to take Tandy! This place looks perfect and the so does the food. Exactly what I’d like to experience in Scotland when we go.
This is one hotel I could easily go back to.
Love Scotland very much and will follow your steps if I return there for holidays ! Thank you Tandy !
My pleasure!
Another amazing looking place in Scotland, Tandy.
