Celebrating 2019
Just saying the words, celebrating 2019, makes me focus on all that has been good this year. It has not been an easy one but I want to end it on a positive note. And I have a lot to be grateful for this year. In February I went up to Johannesburg to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Dave flew up on the Saturday evening and my parents had an amazing party, surrounded by friends and family.
Off to France
In April Dave, Eric, Bev and I went to France. We started off in Paris and then spent a week barging the Yonne. Eric and Bev then went to Ireland and Dave and I headed to Normandy. It was an amazing holiday that extended into May.
Turning 50
In July I turned 50 and the celebration went on for quite some time. I had a small gathering at Seafood at Chelsea with friends. And another small gathering with my parents and friends at 96 Winery Road. Both places went out of their way to make the evening special. Dave also took me to The Restaurant at Waterkloof for the degustation menu, which was a real treat. My friend Kim came from Australia so we could celebrate turning 50 together. It was a special time, just the two of us for a few days away from it all.
Visiting England
This holiday was all about family and friends. We spent time with my Aunt Evie (my mother’s sister), and my cousin Anne. Anne’s husband Stuart and her children Jane and Henry. We had 5 nights with James, Carli and Hannah which was special and precious. The first celebration was Carli’s birthday which was highlighted by tea at Harrods. The second celebration was Maya’s Bat Mitzvah and we were blessed to be a part of this special occasion. I also had breakfast with friends of my parents, Carol and Michael, and Dave caught up with school friends who he has not seen since the 1980’s.
Another trip to Johannesburg
Last week we went back to Johannesburg to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday. We had a lovely long weekend with them and celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary together. Dave and I then went away with John and Dorothy to complete the celebrations. We had one of the best meals we have ever had.
I trust you had something to celebrate this year! Wishing those of you who celebrate, a meaningful Christmas. I will be back online in the new year.

Wonderful to focus on the positives, Tandy. We also had lots of good things in 2019.
I’m glad to hear that xx
Having a family and friends that are scattered in so many distant places, you seem incredibly lucky to be able to meet with so many of them in a year. Your trips sound wonderful, both for sightseeing and connections to these many people.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a great new year.
