I am submitting this recipe for Pasta Al Forno Con Pomodori E Mozzarella to Presto Pasta Nights, which is being hosted this week by Alisha of Cook, Craft, Enjoy!
Why I made this dish:
I, like so many other people I know, have a collection of recipe books that I have never used. In December 2010 the dogs (read Dave) bought me Jamie’s Italy. I love the way Jamie Oliver writes his recipes books, but I very seldom turn to them to make a dish from them. Because of this, I decided to set a challenge last month where you could choose a recipe book you have never used, and then choose a recipe to make. I made my recipe in time to submit it to my own challenge, but I did not have time to post it. So, as usual, I am late.
This pasta recipe is baked and has a base of tomatoes and is topped with mozzarella. It appears on page 114 of Jamie’s Italy, and is really simple. You make a basic tomato pasta sauce, add some fresh basil. You then layer this with some cooked pasta, Parmesan cheese and top it off with mozzarella. This is baked at 200° Celsius for 15 minutes .
Did you like it, Tandy? I’m usually given his books as gifts, and I have to admit that I’ve rarely followed any of his recipes. Inspired by them, yes, to create something but never to follow step by step.
I also only usually use his recipes as inspiration, but this one I followed to the letter, and it was very good 🙂
Tandy, I love Jamie Oliver cookbooks, and find I use them all the time! I haven’t bought the Italy book though, so thank you for showing me part of what it offers. This looks delicious, and just the sort of thing we like to eat!
I am trying to collect all of them just for the OCD part of me that likes a complete collection 🙂
I can so identify with that….I think I have ALL of his cookbooks at present!! To die for 🙂 oxo
lucky you! I am missing one I think 🙂
This is delicious simplicity and comfort Tandy! 😀 15 minutes in the oven is super quick too!
The longest thing is cooking the pasta sauce 🙂
I love a good baked pasta dish and this sounds so incredibly comforting!
it was comfort food indeed 🙂
Delicious sounding and looking, but I’m longing to find the recipe for a really sensuous Pasta al Porno.
I had to google the term …..
I think I must get myself that cookbook. Maybe if I drop a few hints nearer to my Birthday. 😉 Love your pic Tandy…. it looks so delicious that I could eat some right now for breakfast. 😉 xxx
this is why I try and not read blogs before breakfast! Hope the hubby picks up on the hints AD 🙂
Looks delicious Tandy! Jamie Oliver is one of my favorite Celebrity Chef’s. Haven’t tried this one but think I will now. 🙂 Yummy!
he is an amazing chef 🙂
I love Jamie’s recipes because they are so simple. I’ve got a couple of his cookbooks but haven’t used either for quite a while either.
they make cooking for the home cook really easy and now I use them for inspiration 🙂
I too, love a good baked pasta dish and I am simply in love with what you’ve made. Just delicious. Yup, this makes my lunch look bad lol
this is so easy to do, and it freezes well 🙂
Lovely easy recipe Tandy.
🙂 Mandy
thanks Mandy 🙂
I have a weakness for dishes like this! Something about tomato, basil, and bubbly mozzarella… I love it! 🙂
me too Jen!
This has to be one of my mum´s “signature” dishes, she makes an amazing pasta al forno and we ate it on our first night in London last week!
lucky you! It is so nice to have a mom made meal 🙂
It looks great!
it tasted great as well 🙂
