Petrus Madutlela Answers Some Questions

Following on from the interview with Justin, Petrus Madutlela has answered some questions. Petrus Madutlela appeared on DSTV as a contestant in Masterchef: The Professionals, UK, and his smile and attitude were amazing. I was rooting for Petrus, but sadly, the title was not to be. From humble beginnings to working with Margot Janse, Petrus Madutlela now works as a Sous Chef at “The Vine” in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

Would be my Parents and wife Shirley, They have always been there for me.

What started you on the path of cooking?

To be honest, it was all an accident. I took a part time job as a KP during festive, dreaming to become a doctor did not happen, as my parents at that time were not financially strong. I do not regret at all, Love cooking!!!

Which three ingredients could you not live without?

Water, salt and Onion!!

Which of your kitchen tools would you take with you anywhere and everywhere?

It will always be my Knives!!

Do you have any pet peeves in the kitchen?

Yep definitely!! Lazy people! Nothing comes for free, you got to work hard for everything.

Which meal is your all time favourite?

Fresh bread and butter!!

Which restaurant would you visit over and over again?

The chefs warehouse in Cape Town. Chef Liam is very talented and down to earth.

If you could only have one recipe book, which one would it be?

La Gastronomic… It says it all!!

If you could work alongside one chef for a day who would that be?

I would really like to work alongside Heston Blumenthal, is an amazing chef and then I can pick his brains.

Which ingredient will you not eat or cook with?

Horse Meat..LOl

What is on top of your bucket list?

To have my own restaurant and then get a just 1 michelin star. Then I will be the happiest man alive.

What is your food philosophy?

Keep it simple, the ingredient should speak for volume!!

Any parting words for the readers?

Definitely!! My words are, everything is possible, education is very important. Let us get educated
