The Searcher opening lines: When Cal comes out of the house, the rooks have got hold of something. Six of them are clustered on the back lawn, amid the long wet grass and the yellow-flowered weeds, jabbing and hopping.
My blurb:
Cal is a retired policeman who has left big city America to settle in rural village Ireland. He wants to get away from it all, his job, his marriage and the feelings. But the child can sense something in him and soon enough, Cal is caught up in detective work. But he does not know the lay of the land, or who to trust. And the very people he thinks are his friends may just turn out to be anything but.
The Searcher
A missing boy. A small town. A question that needs answering.Cal Hooper thought a fixer-upper in a remote Irish village would be the perfect escape. After twenty-five years in the Chicago police force, and a bruising divorce, he just wants to build a new life in a pretty spot with a good pub where nothing much happens. But then a local kid comes looking for his help. His brother has gone missing, and no one, least of all the police, seems to care. Cal wants nothing to do with any kind of investigation, but somehow he can’t make himself walk away.Soon Cal will discover that even in the most idyllic small town, secrets lie hidden, people aren’t always what they seem, and trouble can come calling at his door.
My verdict:
This book is full of surprising twists and turns. It highlights that drugs are everywhere. And you need to learn who to trust. A great read from Tana French.
Publishing information:

the setting in a small Irish village sounds quite appealing!
it sounded idyllic.
Sounds interesting.. and yes sadly drugs ARE everywhere.. ;-(
It is so sad!
I read The Searcher in November, and enjoyed it quite a bit, though I think I enjoyed French’s Dublin police procedurals more than The Searcher. The characters in this one were very well=drawn.
