Everyone Here is Lying opening lines: They don’t speak as William walks her to her car parked behind the motel; they never leave their cars out front, where they might be recognized.
My blurb:
Living in a small neighbourhood means everyone knows everyone. And people seem to have a way into each other’s business. Many of them are lying, but whose lies are the most harmful? Everyone thinks Avery is dead. The police have no idea where she is. And one neighbour, Marion, seems to have pointed the finger in the direction of Ryan Blanchard. But why?
Everyone Here is Lying
Welcome to Stanhope – a safe neighbourhood. A place for families.
William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he’s been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter Avery unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.Hours later, Avery’s family declare her missing.Suddenly Stanhope doesn’t feel so safe. And William isn’t the only one on his street who’s hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery’s neighbours become increasingly unhinged.Who took Avery Wooler?Nothing will prepare you for the truth.
My verdict:
Shari Lapena has an amazing way with words that leave you wondering to the end of a book what is really going on. This one is no exception and you will not want to put it down until you learn the truth. What happened to Avery, and why.
About the author:
Shari Lapena worked as a lawyer and as an English teacher before writing fiction. Her debut thriller, The Couple Next Door, was a global bestseller, the bestselling fiction title in the UK in 2017 and has been optioned for television. Her second thriller, A Stranger in the House and third, An Unwanted Guest, were both Sunday Times and New York Times bestsellers’.
About the book:
The new unputdownable thriller from the ‘queen of the one-sit read’, multi-million-copy bestselling author. Secrets start to unravel in a family-friendly neighbourhood when a local girl goes missing.
