Eyes Like Mine, Sheena Kamal

Eyes Like Mine opening line: The call comes in just after five in the morning.

Eyes Like Mine

My blurb:

Nora woke up pregnant. She does not know where she is, or how she got there. And as the story starts to unravel she realizes a few home truths. One, she has to stop drinking. Two, she cannot sing again. And three, she has to give the child away. But then 15 years later, her daughter comes looking for her. And the consequences for everyone are dire.

Eyes Like Mine

It’s late. The phone rings.

The man on the other end says his daughter is missing. Your daughter.

The baby you gave away over fifteen years ago.

What do you do?

Deciding to search for her daughter brings troubled Nora Watts into contact with a past that she’s spent years trying to forget. It’s an investigation that takes her on a harrowing journey of deception and violence – one that will eventually lead her to a final showdown with a figure from her own dark past.

And all to save a girl she wishes had never been born.

My verdict:

I am not sure if I would read another of Sheena Kamal’s novels. I found the narrative to be too disjointed. The story line itself was good but could have been written more fluidly. I would not rush out to buy this book. If you have read this novel and have a different opinion to mine, please let me know in the comments below.

  1. Hi Tandy, I admire the fact that you are truthful re the book you reviewed. It sounds cruel for the author, of course, and it is always a matter of taste…BUT in the long run, it is better that writers hear truthful adverse opinions about their books if they’re going to improve should the criticisms be worthy ones. Most of us read a book we don’t like every now and then, and if the author is a friend or family member, it really puts us on the spot. It must be remembered though that even award winning books are not liked or approved of by EVERYONE! We have to grow thicker skins…Best wishes. Joy x

    1. It is so hard to review books written by people you know. But for my readers I feel I owe them the truth. And after a while of reading my reviews people will know if we have the same or similar tastes.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Tandy, I love book reviews. Always looking for the next great read. I’m sorry I didn’t get to join your scone challenge, would have loved to. I was on a blog break and only just saw your invitation. Next time?
