Showcasing December 2017
December 2017 has to have been one of the busiest months we have had in a long time. The first weekend Dave and I went to Johannesburg. It was the 50th anniversary of Formula Ford racing and Dave went to take part. We then came home to a fairly busy work week and the following weekend we drove to Knysna to see Dave’s mum. Our last week of work was hectic and then we went away for a night to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We had a day’s breather before my parents arrived to spend time with us. Now it is a new year and hopefully a good one for everyone.
Patum Peperium
When we fly home out of Heathrow there are a few things I bring back with me. One of them is a bottle of whisky that we cannot get here. And the other is a selection of patum peperium. I might have to bring home more than 3 next visit as it will be a long time before we go back to the UK after next month.
Cape Winelands Cuisine
I was sent a gift of Hetta’s Cape Winelands Cuisine which I have reviewed on my blog. I absolutely love the book and at present it has pride of place in my kitchen while I work my way through a few more of the recipes.
Stainless Steel Straws
I am all for reducing my consumption of single use plastics. Before we went to the UK, I found these stainless steel straws and ordered them on-line to arrive at my cousin before we did. I gifted one each to all of the children and kept two for myself to use. One of these is kept in my handbag at all times to use when I meet a friend for a smoothie.
Chef’s Knife
I wrote about the replacement of my chef’s knife where the handle had cracked. I hope that this one really does last a lifetime.
December 2017 #FOMO Box
The December 2017 #FOMO Box had a few things in it that I already use. The quinoa has been added to my container and the salad flowers have replaced the flowers I bought back from Scotland a few year’s ago that are now finished. The pannetone and dried figs have been enjoyed – I sell the figs through my business so there is always a packet in my pantry. The herb scissors came in great use as I cannot find mine! The crema gastronomica is on the table together with the olive oil and it is really tasty. The MCC has been drunk and I am using the verjuice in place of vinegar to make my mayonnaise and salad dressing.

Dave and I are on leave. We will be back at work officially tomorrow. We both worked yesterday and today I have my first massage of the year – I cannot wait 🙂

The Hetta’s Cape Winelands Cuisine book looks beautiful and inspiring. 🙂
It really is!
What a crazy, busy but fun sounding December you have had Tandy! My favorite recipe was for the blackberry gelatto. Even though it’s 1 degree today where I live, I still crave it. Wishing you all the blessings a New Year can bring!!!
Laura, I wish all the same for you! The gelato goes down a treat regardless of the weather 🙂
The Patum Perium relish sounds good – even though that I live in the UK I have not tried them yet. How embarrassing, need to change that 🙂
We love them!
