The Burning opening line: Monday. Nineteen hours in the dark. The dead man lived up the hill. We could have walked, if the world wasn’t ending and we didn’t have to bring him back.
My blurb:
Deputy Coroner Clay Edison is investigating the murder of a wealthy man. A man who collects many things, including basketball memorabilia. So it comes as no surprise when Clay sees a photograph of himself amongst the collection. But he is surprised when he finds his brothers’ car amongst the many other ones parked in the garage. Going against all the principals he should have as a member of law enforcement, Clay will do anything it seems to hide Luke’s identity and shield him from being named the killer.
The Burning
When a wealthy man is found murdered in his hilltop home, Deputy Coroner Clay Edison is shocked to discover a link to his own brother Luke on the scene.Luke is fresh out of prison and struggling to stay on the straight and narrow. But surely he’s not a killer? When Luke goes missing, the case becomes even more fraught for Clay. He knows that the conflict between family and the truth could take him down the wrong path.Is his brother capable of murder? Or could he be a victim too?As wildfires and blackouts sweep through the state of California, the truth will only get harder to find.
My verdict:
A great read from the father and son duo, with an ending one did not see coming.
