The Falcon Of Sparta opening line: In Babylon, starlings gaped in the heat, showing dark tongues.
My blurb:
King Darius II of Persia came to rule this vast empire by killing his brother. He knew that as long as Cyrus was alive he could do the same. Artaxerxes is the heir to his throne. In order to ensure he lives the life as the next ruler, Darius tells his son to kill his brother Cyrus. But that does not go to plan and now Cyrus is seeking revenge. He has a paid army of the men from Sparta. Can they defeat the mighty Imperial Army to make Cyrus the next King?
The Falcon Of Sparta
In the Ancient World, one army was feared above all others. This is their story. When Cyrus, brother to the Great King of Persia, attempts to overthrow his reckless sibling, he employs a Greek mercenary army of 10,000 soldiers. When this army becomes stranded as a result of the unexpected death of Cyrus, and then witnesses the treacherous murder of its entire officer corps, despair overtakes them. One man, Xenophon, rallies the Greeks. As he attempts to lead them to freedom across 1,500 miles of hostile territory seething with adversaries, 10,000 men set off on the long way home.
My verdict:
I love historical novels when they are like this one. Dave and I have watched a lot on the history channel about both Persia and Greece. The Spartans set the bar when it came to warfare and their strength is clearly mapped out in the novel.

I enjoyed your review of this book, Tandy. I shared it to my new Facebook page. I am trying my hand at supernatural horror writing now and fell it doesn’t mix well with baking and chocolate men.
I am with you there 🙂 And thanks for the share!
I love historical novels too, and this sounds like a great one. I’ll see if our library has it. 🙂
He has written quite a few books and I would not mind reading more of his novels 🙂
