The Restaurant At Wildekrans Wine Estate

We have visited Wildekrans Wine Estate a few times to do wine tasting. And eventually in March we went for lunch at The Restaurant At Wildekrans. Given that the menu is seasonal we have plans to go back.

The drive to Wildekrans in Bot River is well worth it to experience gourmet food in a relaxed environment. Whether you choose to sit indoors or al fresco, the view over the vineyards is amazing. I usually skip the bread course when we eat out, but this Cape seed loaf with herbed butter was amazing, and I could not resist an entire slice. To start I had the sesame crusted tuna (R140) which was served with kimchi, yuzu pearls, wasabi crème fraîche and a soy-ginger emulsion. My Dad had the peppered beef carpaccio (R140) and Dave had the duck and proscuitto terrine (R130).

To Start

Our main course and a dessert

My Mom decided to have the terrine as her main course and my Dad went for the Overberg lamb (R260). Dave and I both had the Asian glazed beef short rib (R250). This was served with pok choi, pear puree, cumin scented carrots, kohlrabi slaw and a honey-soy reduction. My mom was the only one to have dessert which was pear and gorgonzola (R110). A poached pear was served with a gorgonzola ice cream and a ginger preserve. We washed this down with a bottle of Wildekrans Pinotage 2021 which sells at the estate for R125 a bottle.

Service and more

We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and the lovely relaxed setting. I took a peek into the open kitchen and it looked like the staff were enjoying what they were doing. This is always a good sign in my opinion. The service was excellent and bookings are highly recommended. The have cottages for rent on the estate so tables could be booked up by the guests. Contact them on +27 28 284 9488 or send an email to see what is on the menu. You will notice the sign on the wall says Keer-Weer. This was the title deed of the farm dating back to 1864.
