In January, Dave and I went out for a quick meal at Vilamoura Portuguese Grillhouse. Based in Strand, this small eatery offers up authentic Portuguese food.
Vilamoura Portuguese Grillhouse
We tend to eat the same meal when we go there, but this visit, I tried to order something new. Dave suggested we start with the Portuguese sardines (R85). I was reluctant at first, as the last time I had grilled sardines they were not good. But these were excellent. Flame grilled with oil and salt and served with a sliced up, toasted roll. Our second choice to share was the grilled chouriço (R90) and we were served a large sausage which was flame grilled in Brandy. On the side there was some (more) toasted bread, and a seriously hot peri-peri sauce for dipping. Dave had ordered a Heineken Zero (R40) which was ideal for washing down the spicy starter.
Mains and more
For my main course I had the grilled Patagonian calamari tubes (R169). These are always a winner, being perfectly cooked and tender, and grilled in a light garlic butter. Dave had the chicken wings (R169) which are lightly dusted with flour, and deep fried. They are served with a choice of lemon and herb or per-peri sauce. The venue is small, and the tables close together, so expect some intimate dining. Service is always good and bookings are essential, especially in the summer months when the beach front is busy.

What can one say 🙂 ? Wish I had been there with you altho’ methinks I would have kept away from the deep-fry and opted for the grill . . . both calamari and squid sound luvverly just before dinner here . . .
I usually don’t do deep fried food, but every now and then, the craving hits!
Such a delicious meal! I would love some grilled sardines.
they are a firm favourite of mine 🙂
This sounds really good Tandy, when sardines are good they are very good.
I agree!
Even the vegetables look fresh, bright, and well cooked!
