A Wedding in Provence opening lines: Alexandra still couldn’t quite control her excitement. She was in Paris!
My blurb:
After Lizzie’s wedding, and the sudden appearance of her family from Switzerland, everything has changed for Lexie. She has been told she has to attend a finishing school and on her way there she asks to spend time in Paris. A chance encounter sees her taking on a job as a Nanny to three children. Two of them who don’t need that type of supervision. But using all she learnt from being an orphan, Alexander opens them up to love, and opens herself to love as well.
A Wedding in Provence
1963, a chateau in Provence. It’s late afternoon when Alexandra arrives, and the chateau before her is old, substantial and its four large towers seem to grow out of the soil. It is, she thinks, reassuring in its permanence and solidity.Less reassuring are the three silent, rather hostile children waiting for her inside. They are to be her charges for a month: a boy and two girls badly in need of some love, attention, and an English education.Fresh from London and a recent cookery course, Alexandra has always loved a challenge and feels equipped to deal with most things life throws her. What she is a good deal less sure about is whether she’ll be able to cope with their father – an impossibly good-looking, entirely unsuitable French count with whom she is trying very hard not to fall in love…
My verdict:
I loved this book for all the insights about life as a wealthy young heiress growing up alone in London. And because a love story is always a good thing. I cannot wait for Katie Fforde to follow this book on with another wedding!
