Anna Peters’ Year Of Cooking Dangerously

Anna Peters’ Year Of Cooking Dangerously opening line: There are hundreds of secrets that capable cooks don’t pass on to the amateurs.

My blurb:

Anna has to face reality. Despite a relationship stretching from university to her thirties, she is not getting engaged. Garry, with two R’s, is not going to propose while they are in Thailand. The holiday signals their break up and at first Anna tries to woo him back. She thinks if she learns how to cook, Garry will learn how to love her enough. When that doesn’t happen she moves out and finds herself, through food and men and friends.

Anna Peters’ Year Of Cooking Dangerously

Anna Peters has been dumped by her long-term love, Garry, and needs to figure out what to do with her broken heart. Tackling her misery by trying to cook her way back into her beau’s life, she learns a few things – like what mussels are supposed to smell like, how much she knows and doesn’t know about sirloin, and how to sidestep a consommé that’s never going to happen.

She also, ahem, taste-tests a few of the eligible men who have been under her nose all along. But is Anna Peters finally ready to taste reality? Or will she burn down the kitchen before then?

Full of good sex and great recipes, Anna Peters’ Year of Cooking Dangerously is a mouth-watering feast.
My verdict:

I had planned at first on cooking my way through the book but after the first recipe I knew this would not happen. Even though the recipes are great it’s not the cooking that grabs you. It’s the witty way Kathryn tells the story of Garry and Anna; and Anna and Jason. I could not put this book down. It’s the story of so many of us and as its set in Johannesburg where I spent my twenties learning to cook, I can so relate.
