August 2025 began the countdown to our September holiday. Accommodation had to be paid for, and blog posts written for while we are away. My oldest friend came from London for a brief visit, and we managed to squeeze in a quick lunch. It was amazing to catch up face-to-face. National Women’s Day fell on a Saturday, and I baked while Dave worked. Dave and I went to a wine tasting at a local vineyard and had a charcuterie platter for lunch. And the following week we went to another wine tasting after an early dinner on the beachfront. We had a few meals out, some at restaurants and others at friends, so all in all, a busy month!
Recipes from my blog in August 2025
Whereas I am way ahead of my posting schedule, I am still sharing recipes I made early on in the year. The first of these was for shredded lamb which was delicious. I made blue cheese and walnut scones for International Scone Week 2025, as well as carrot cake scones. This is not a traditional recipe, but the result was amazing. I worked on a recipe for blueberry cheesecake ice cream for a friend. And made lemon pasta for my caramelle con ricotta as a challenge to myself. I am trying to make as many new pasta shapes as I can.
One new thing in my kitchen
When we first moved to Gordons Bay I needed chicken shears. We have a local store called Friedman & Cohen and I purchased a pair from them. Twenty four years down the line they have lost their sharpness. This is not bad considering just how many chicken carcasses Dave has cut over the years. I bought a new pair this month and already they have been tested, and pass!
This is my September submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

Always great to be a part of #IMK!
Sounds like you are ready and prepared for your September vacation. Enjoy ! and enjoy your new shears. Your dutch apple cake and ice cream sound amazing.
Thank you Judee 🙂
A delicious August, Tandy. I seldom buy a whole chicken..usually just chicken thighs or whole legs (I actually just like chicken skin and eat mostly just skin) so I probably don’t need one. However, I do NEED some good knifes for my steak since I eat them every single day.
I have some amazing steak knives from ScanPan which I love 🙂
Definitely a busy month!
Indeed!
I can’t believe it’s already September, but it looks like you made the most of August! I also adore your shears and even though I’m certainly not dispatching any chicken carcasses, I love sharp and shiny things, so I desperately want a pair, too.
I think I could find some other uses for them 😉
It’s hard to believe it’s already September! You had some delicious recipes in August; perhaps, my fave would be savoury scones.
They were high up there as a favourite for me too 🙂
It all looks delicious.

Thank you Amalia 🙂
Those shears look nice. Thanks, Tandy
From @home 😉
carrot cake scones! what an idea. carrot cake is all the rage in Paris, served by so many hipster cafés. it must be time for your visit soon, not sure if we will cross paths but in any case have a fantastic holiday and let me know if I can help in anyway!
Thanks so much – sending you an email now xx
Sounds like you had a busy but delicious month! I too am way ahead of my posting schedule and it’s so funny to be sharing recipes I made months ago but so satisfying to be one step ahead on the blog posts. Everything looks delicious in your kitchen this month but I only have eyes for the carrot cake scones! Yumbo!
They were very tummy indeed!
I was really sad that I did not see anything about international scone week this year until I found I had missed it – I have had a crazy winter so it is not surprising but am sorry I didn’t even get time to send you some scones belately. Both your scones you posted look fab. I hope you will be back with ISW next year and I can be part of it then. Hope you enjoy your travels and some good food over the coming month.
I shall in all likelihood to it again next year, only because I already have recipes to share 😉
Those kitchen shears certainly look like the real deal, I need a pair of those. You have created so many delicious meals this last month and earned your holiday. Hope you are having a great time Tandy. Best wishes, Pauline
