December 2025 did not go entirely to plan. Work which is usually a mad house this time of the year was dead quiet! And then, the day after we closed an urgent order came in. As we were meant to go away that day, I did not read the emails. Had I done so, I would have been able to deliver the order on the day, as our first night away was cancelled. The reserve had to evacuate guests on the Sunday night due to fires. And on the Monday they evacuated their staff. The fire came right up to the house we had booked in to. We went on the Tuesday instead, and only for 2 nights. This really only gave us one day of pure relaxation. After that, my time was spent doing household chores, and a little bit of recipe development.
Recipes from my blog in December 2025
Continuing with my reviews of recipe books, this month I shared recipes for lamb samoosa pie, roosterkoek, and pistachio and honey tart. I also made chicken korma, rose pistachio cheesecake ice cream, tummale di ricotta and spiced scrolls. Dave and I indulged in the ice cream throughout the month to help cool us down during the unusually hot weather we experienced. Our heat wave month is normally in February, but it has been seriously hot since November, and it looks like it will not let up.
One new thing in my kitchen
My friend Bev saw these cleaning cloths at her daughter who lives in Australia. She brought a set for me to use, and I have them in my scullery and kitchen. They are ideal for soaking up any spilt water which is a must for me as we have unsealed wooden tops in our kitchen.
This is my January submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens. Wishing everyone the most amazing 2026 you can imagine!

My CPT sister is here with her family. She said it’s been very hot. It has been cool and rainy here. Wonderful. We are off to St Lucia tomorrow to see the turtles hatching 💓
I cannot wait to see pics of that!!
I like the dishcloth…nice print! Happy New Year, Tandy.
Thank you, and they work so well!
I was gifted some dish cloths that are a different brand but I think they’re the new “thing” in the kitchen. I love them!
That is such a nice gift!
Happy New Year! May 2026 be more restful and restorative.
Thank you so much!
Happy New Year Tandy, what an adventure, I am so glad you were safe. Fires are so unpredictable, they terrify me. That chicken korma looks pretty delicious! ~Nessa
Thanks Nessa – fires are scary and awful and this one has burnt over 35000 hecatres so far!
that’s a shame about your break being reduced in time due to fires! sounds like an aussie kind of thing :=) We are having floods, storms, hail, bushfires etc all around the country this summer. Oh and i forgot to mention it snowed in Tassie on christmas day – mid summer!! so weird. Happy new year to you, and thanks for joining in with IMK this month.
cheers
sherry
I saw pics of the snow! That is so odd. One year there was snow here on the 16th of December, but luckily for us, not on our wedding day 😉
Wow, nothing like a fire when you want (and need!) to go on vacation. The food looks delicious, especially that Chicken Korma. Happy New Year, take care.
Thanks Melynda, and a happy 2026 to you!
Looks lovely, Tandy – such a great collection, and wishing you a very happy New Year.
thank you, and the same to you!
I’ll check out those dishcloths at Adairs, They look really nice and practical. You have shared some great recipes. Happy New Year Tandy.
So nice I could share something you can buy locally!

I shall have to pack some for you in September 😉
Happy Belated New Year – hope 2026 is being good to you. Love those dishcloths – Adairs is such a great store. Sorry to hear your vacay got cut short but hope you made the best of it 🙂 The ice cream sounds soooo good!
We made the best of it indeed!
