Lies And Weddings, Kevin Kwan

Lies And Weddings opening line: “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever.

Lies and Weddings

My blurb:

Eden Tong is happy being a Doctor, and the daughter of a Doctor. Her closest friends are the Viscount St. Ives and his sisters, Lady Augusta, and Lady Beatrice Gresham. Her father is best friends with their father, and this is how come they live on the estate of the Earl of Greshamsbury. But, Eden will never be good enough in the eyes of the Countess, despite them having so much in common. Can Eden ever overcome Arabella’s feelings towards her?

Lies And Weddings
Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshamsbury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel, is drowning in debt. The only solution, according to his mother, is for him to attend his sister’s wedding and seduce a woman with money.
Will it be the French hotel heiress with a royal bloodline? The venture capital genius who passes out billions like lollipops? Or will Rufus betray his family and confess his love for his best friend and ‘girl next door’ Eden? But when a volcanic eruption burns through the nuptials and a hot mic exposes a secret tryst, the Gresham family plans – and their reputation – go up in flames, making Rufus’ choice all the more impossible.
My verdict:

After the last book I read, I really wanted something light and easy to read. But this was anything but. Personally, I could not stand the racism of the Chinese Countess against the Chinese neighbours. And I couldn’t care less if someone went to Eton, or the local school. As for the extravagance of the wealthy, it was really over the top. So, you are probably wondering why I continued reading this book. Well, I wanted to know if my suspicions about how it would end were accurate or not. And I was spot on. The only part of this book I really enjoyed were all the footnotes with informative facts. If you are a fan of Kevin Kwan then pick up this book. But if not, then I would not recommend you spend your money buying it.

About the Book from another perspective:

Taking us from the sand beaches of Hawaii to the skies of Marrakech, from the glitzy bachelor pads of Beverly Hills to the inner sanctums of England’s oldest family estates, Kevin Kwan has written a juicy, hilarious and sophisticated tale of love, money, murder, sex, and the lies we tell about them all.
