May 2025 started off with us ending our 5 day trip to explore more of our lovely country. I had been in Johannesburg so Dave collected me from George airport which is along the route to Knysna. We spent a night there with friends before heading into the Baviaanskloof for a night. It took us the entire day to drive the 300 kilometers to Patensie where we spent a night. Our penultimate evening away was at Storms River Mouth which is in the Tsitsikamma Forest and marks the start of the Otter Trail. We spent another night in Knysna before heading home. Dave and I had a few meals out, and I did very little in the way of recipes for the blog.
Recipes I showcased in May 2025
I was on a bread mission, with the emphasis on sourdough. I baked plain rolls, and ones filled with cranberries and nuts. Sourdough poppadoms were oven baked, and I made a loaf of malt bread. For snacks there were roasted nuts and seeds, and for the sweet tooth, gold chocolate bars. I also baked a batch of chocolate oat biscuits.
One new thing in my kitchen
Last year, one of our supermarkets had a collect a sticker campaign. I really wanted a new bread knife, but by the end of the campaign I did not have enoughs stickers. I did however have enough to get this knife, which is the perfect size for cutting fruit etc.
This is my June submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

That knife looks great – all mine are quite blunt but I’m too scared to get new sharp knives in case I chop my finger off. I’m so used to my old blunt ones, LOL! Your bread looks epic and the sourdough poppadoms – yes please! Sounds like you had a great trip away too 🙂 Hope you have a joyous June!
I would be too scared to use a blunt knife, as that is what usually ends up causing cuts!
Nice knife!
thanks!
Interesting trip. I have never heard of the places you visited, which makes it very intriguing for me.
They are places I had never heard of either which was good for me too 🙂
I’m glad you managed to get a nice new knife. You had a busy month.
Busy is good 😉
I love baking bread :-)) haven’t bought anything from the bakeries in ages 🙂 That knife looks pretty good.
I wish I could taste some of the breads you bake!
What a delicious, adventurous, and productive month! I’m looking forward to seeing what June may bring!
thank you!
Sourdough poppadums are so fascinating! I’m always intrigued by all the sourdough things that can come about from creative reimagining of existing recipes. I’ve been baking the most boring loaves recently and need some inspiration for a baking project…
Your loaves always look amazing!
One of our supermarkets had a knife offer, so i ended up with all the knives i think:=) Love all the breads you have made! Thanks for joining in this month; great to have you each month! Appreciate it. Have a great June.
cheers

I would still do this again for a bread knife 🙂
Any month with a trip in it, is a good month! I took a look at the Malt Loaf and the Chocolate Oat Cookies, both look delicious! I have to say, I wish our country did not allow GMO’s….
thank you for the compliments! And yes, it would be quite something if the US banned GMO’s 🙂
