I did not start off October 2022 in a good frame of mind. A few things happened that made me really consider my blogging. So, from this month, you will see a change. My IMK post will now be done on the 1st of the month, and not the first Wednesday. And I will be sharing recipes, recipe book reviews and restaurant reviews twice a week. So from posting every single Monday, Wednesday and Friday I will now be scheduling my posts for a Tuesday and Thursday. This is a big change for me, but I know it is the right one to make. So, without further ado, let’s get to what creations I shared last month.
October 2022 Recipes
I made bacon relish while reviewing a recipe book, and from that I made a bacon relish beer bread. My herring in horseradish cream was served with seeded bread rolls. During winter while cooking a lot of casseroles, I reserved all the beef fat. This was eventually rendered down so I could make a beef fat hollandaise. On the sweet side I made salted caramel pots de creme which are restaurant worthy if I say so myself. The pecan nut cake was absolutely delicious and the Welsh cakes were a perfect quick afternoon tea treat. Last, but not least, were a batch of Australian biscuits. You might recognise them as Anzac cookies but due to a whole herd of reasons, I could not call them that.
Two new things in my kitchen
I was sharing only one new thing a month, but now I am so far behind I need to play catch up. For Christmas last year Hannah gave me a bamboo spoon and new oven gloves. I kept the spoon in its packaging until Dave burnt my wooden spoon. He left the gas on with an empty frying pan on top, and the wooden spoon took the brunt of the damage. I have hung the gloves up on my butchers block and use them often. Especially when taking hot pots and pans off the gas.
This is my November submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

Your kitchen was very busy with all those dishes you made!
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
It keeps my head in the right space 🙂
I think your new schedule sound perfect! You have to do what works best for you. And blogging definitely has ups and downs. I have days when I’m done and other days that I realize just how much I enjoy writing…..and even taking photos! Hope you do get into a better frame of mind though because I do enjoy your recipes. They are “off the beaten path” which I find refreshing.
Thank you Laura, your words are appreciated xxx
So many interesting dishes this month. I love your Nonna apron. My husband’s family called his mom, Nonna- since her family was from Italy.
I am Italian at heart, and speak the language averagely well when we are there 🙂
thanks so much for joining in Tandy. i love a wooden spoon as you know 🙂 Good to change up blogging every so often. Bacon relish sounds marvellous. yes you have to be very careful with our anzac bikkies! There are actually laws about it, as you probably know. It’s a bit funny really but i love it! they are so iconic!
I was paying careful attention to the laws, which I actually did not know about before I got the recipe book from which I made them 🙂
We are our own bosses… so there’s that! Don’t stop blogging!
Thank you Mimi for that! I am not going anywhere 🙂
I hope your new schedule works for you!
I must say those salted caramel pots look amazing!
They were so delicious 🙂
I am impressed that you have a schedule, Tandy. I admire your discipline. My posting is rather haphazard. Sorry about the mishap with your old wooden spoon, but glad the pan wasn’t ruined and you have a replacement on hand.
I need the discipline of a schedule 😉
Tandy I read your interesting IMK post ages ago and thought I had replied, never mind, I am so interested in your Bacon Relish and now the Beer Bread, not something I have had here.I don’t buy bacon very much bit I must try this.
We go through a fair bit of bacon here 😉
