September 2020 started with our on again, off again flights which I still have to blog about. I am waiting for the situation to resolve before I do so. However, I can tell you that on the 17th we decided to cancel our trip to Europe, making it the first time in 12 years we are not travelling. Life felt back to normal other than the wearing of masks. I am all for it if it keeps the nation healthy. That, together with sanitising everywhere we go has been of great benefit.
So, what sweet treats did I bake in September 2020?
Inspired by my niece who lives in Canberra, I made carrot muffins with a brown butter icing. There was also a chocolate yoghurt cake and poppy seed crackers.
On the sourdough front
I made a mixed flour bread and sour cream waffles.
Easy to make recipes
These included a mouth puckering lemon and thyme sorbet that does not require a churner, as well as roasted garlic butter.
One new thing In My Kitchen in September 2020
I was gifted these amazing vinegars from Vinegar Hills. Dave and I eat salad for lunch every day at work. I use my standard salad dressing recipe and the flavour is changed up nicely by using these vinegars.
This is my October submission to the #IMK series, hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens. Pop on over to her blog to take a peek.

To a life well lived in 2020!
It’s really so sad. I know I told you we’re supposed to be in South Africa right now! Hopefully we can all travel next year. Looks like you got on the sourdough bandwagon! I love those vinegars. Especially the tomato vinegar! Sometimes when I made a marinade I throw in a ripe tomato or two, but I really wonder what that tastes like! I’ll have to check my local deli, amazon.com!
Our borders are open, but not for people from the US – but I am sure that will change and you will get here. I have been on the sourdough bandwagon for years. It was just easier during hard lockdown. I must try a marinade with fresh tomato as we always have over ripe ones in the veggie basket.
i like the look of that sorbet, tandy. thanks so very much for joining in every month! much appreciated. keep safe
cheers

I love this blogging connection Sherry. And that sorbet is worth making imo 🙂
So sorry you could not travel, Tandy. the baked goods looks amazing.
Thank you Meme 🙂
I’m so sorry you had to cancel your trip! I guess the one benefit to masks is that no one is getting so much of a cold here! My kids haven’t been sick (nor have I) since before COVID and that’s been nice =)
It must be wonderful to not have had sick kids 🙂
Your decision to stay at home and not go to Europe is heartbreaking — but also very sensible! They have quite a lot of problems with recurrence of the virus, and while traveling it’s very hard to stay safe. All your sweets look good!
be well… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks Mae, it is difficult – but everything happens for a reason 🙂
I don’t feel comfortable traveling just yet; perhaps once the vaccine is available and proven safe and effective…
I am ready to travel – but only if Covid tests are required 🙂
