Wanting a casual dinner, close to where we were staying, Kim and I chose to go to The Brewery for a meal. They are situated in the Hemel en Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley of Hermanus, South Africa.
The Brewery
With a surprising selection of beers, ciders and gin on tap, I decided to go with the Hermanus Pale Ale (R22). I was glad I ordered the 250ml option as this was not the best beer I have had. It was pleasant enough and went well with my meal. Kim had the Eversons Blueberry Cider (R25) which tasted just like cold drink. I could definitely add that to my collection at home.
Starters And Trying To Order Mains
Kim and I shared a starter portion of salt and pepper calamari (R75). They were crisp and crunchy and very tasty. And the lemon aioli served with it was packed with lemon flavour. Ordering our meal turned out to be a challenge. The fishmongers catch (SQ) was kingklip which Kim loves, so she ordered that. However, the waiter came back to tell her that it had changed to kabeljou. Knowing Kim would not like this gamey fish I suggested she take a second look at the menu. Her next choice was the pork belly (R150) which had sold out by the time the waiter put her order in.
Our Main Course
Her third choice was a banting burger (R120) with a side order of vegetables. I had a 600g portion of ribs (R170) which was far too much food for me. The menu described them as being beer infused and as we were at a brewery that influenced my decision. Even though the beer taste was not dominant, they were super tasty and I finished the lot. Albeit with a full stomach at the end.The side salad was generous with the amount of Danish feta. We also ordered a portion of chips to share (R35) and I had a few just to make sure I tasted them.
Service And More
The service was pleasant enough, even if the waiter was not up-to-date on what food was available. The place is stark and noisy, but full of locals which is a good sign. The meal, including gratuity came to R494.00. They have specials on during the week, and I would go back for lunch.

The ribs look lusciously good and I’d be totally trying that blueberry cider too!
They were that good!
Looks tasty Tandy! I especially like that side order of veggies!
Veggies are always a good choice 🙂
We always visit breweries when we travel. In fact we brought back a blueberry beer from our last trip too!
That sounds interesting.
