The Dinner, Herman Koch: Book Review

The Dinner opening line: We were going out to dinner.

The Dinner

The setting for this book is Amsterdam and it revolves around a situation that exists between 2 couples. The men are brothers and it is something their children did which brings them together for this meal. The book is narrated by the one brother and it is written entirely from his perspective. The story itself will shock you, and it is this that keeps you turning the pages. There are no specifics and because of this, you feel as if the story is true. It is well written and as it is a translation, I am most impressed.

My verdict:

If you are heading off on holiday and need a good read for the flight, or for the beach, then take this book with you. This is one of those books that you can sit down and read in an afternoon.
